Started Working at a Young Age
Shri Devi was born on August 13, 1963, in Meenampatti, Tamil Nadu. She stepped into films at the tender age of four. For almost five decades, Shri Devi ruled the silver screen. She received her first breakthrough role in the Tamil film “Moondru Mudichu” in 1976. Shri Devi worked in several hit films alongside the top actors of that era, Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan. Many reports claim that Shri Devi was the first Bollywood actress to charge a fee of 1 crore rupees during that time.

The Highest-Paid Actress
Charging a fee of 1 crore rupees was a significant event for Shri Devi as such high fees were only given to male actors during that period. Shri Devi’s first Bollywood film, “Solva Sawan,” did not perform exceptionally well at the box office. However, in 1983, her film “Himmatwala” shattered all records. Even Salman Khan was afraid of her charisma.

Salman Khan once mentioned in an interview that he was quite nervous about working with Shri Devi. He believed that no one would notice his hard work if he worked alongside her. Shri Devi and Salman Khan have worked together in films like “Chand Ka Tukda” and “Chandramukhi.”
