Diaries Magazine
I have always loved reading. Ever since I was little, I have simply loved to read, and am one of those people who gets so caught up in a book they will sit and read for hours, and become desperate to find out what happens at the end.
Or, at least, I used to sit and read for hours. But over the last few years I have found that I haven't been doing that. I love reading as much as ever, but I just never seem to find time to sit down and pick up a book. When I was working, I would get home at 5pm, make dinner, do the housework, and then sit down for a little bit to catch up online and, before you know it, it's bed time. Now, I spend all day running round with Isabelle, then when she is in bed it's time for housework, catch up online and, before you know it, it's bed time again! I'm not someone who likes to read in bed, and Simon doesn't like me to either, so I need to find some other time to sit down and read. Then again, Simon isn't a reader at all, and he struggles to understand how I can giggle and laugh out loud at a book!
I'm pretty embarrassed to say that I have only read one book this whole year and it's almost April! I want to dedicate more time to reading, which means I will be dedicating less time to faffing about online, looking at nothing, and doing not very much at all. My aim over the next two or three months is to read one book a week. Which, for me, is not a lot at all. I am lucky that I read quite quickly, and have no issues finishing a book in one evening - as long as I give myself the time!
What sort of books do I like? Well, if you came and had a nosey through my book shelves you would see I am not someone who reads anything serious or noteworthy. My favorite author is Sophie Kinsella (who wrote the Shopaholic series), and I love Marian Keyes too, so it's that genre of books I read most often - silly, funny, romantic works of fiction. Nothing that will ever shatter the literary world, but I love them anyway. When I go in to a book shop, which is one of my favorite pasttimes, I find books I want to read by standing in front of the fiction section, and gazing over the books. If it has a brightly coloured spine, or something to make it jump out, I will pick it up to read the blurb and it usually comes home with me. Or, as is very often the case, a 'book swap' with my sister and sister-in-law occurs. Luckily we all have the same taste in books, and the pile below actually arrived from my sister last week.
Here is my current stack of books waiting to be read - 10 in total. I am half way through the top book (and have been since February...) so I will finish it this week before moving on. I'll keep you up dated with how I get on, and stay tuned for some of my favorite reads over the next while too.
