Reader Question: After finishing Visualise Your Style, I realize a large part of my personality is feminine. It seems I can find feminine shoes for warmer weather. But how do I find feminine winter shoes? What details do I look for to add feminine touches? Preferably not heels but everyday shoes!
When Your Feet Have to Be Feminine
This was a question I completely relate to, as I too prefer a more feminine style of footwear, even though I have a high drive for comfort in my shoes, I don't want them to be unappealing or too masculine. So I've put together this video and shoppable boards to help you find more feminine winter footwear if you too feel the same way!
When I saw these butterfly sneakers I knew they had to come home with me as I find sneakers a not very feminine shoe, so finding ones that had a more feminine aesthetic made my day!
Heels do make shoes and boots more feminine, but they can be impractical and uncomfortable, so if you don't want to wear anything but a small heel, how do you add femininity to your winter shoes and boots? I've found a bunch of shoes and in the video below, give you some great tips on what makes a shoe feminine even when it doesn't have a heel.
Remember, there are frequently more colours available in many of these styles I've chosen, so click through to the boards here so you can then find where I've found these shoes and you can see all the other colour options!
Metallic, Shiny & Bling
One really easy way is to look for some shiny, sparkling or metallic finish on your winter shoes and boots.
These are my sequin boots and I love them (and they always get a comment or two).
Floral Patterns
Floral or circular patterns are part of the feminine personality dressing style and are another easy way to add a feminine touch to your boots and shoes in winter.
Not only do these boots have a floral pattern, they are made from velvet which has a soft feminine feel.
Ladylike Lace-ups
There are feminine elements in these lace up shoes. Think about the thickness of the sole not being too "workboot" like, a finer sole, a curved small heel or kitten heel, and the boot coming in at the ankle to highlight it (rather than it being loose and wide), so it's like a waisted dress.
More rounded or pointed rather than square or chunky toe boxes.
Consider too a little fur detail (if it's cold or just for fun) as well as other decorative details.
Decorative Details
Small decorative studs which are like jewellery for your shoes, or it's a strap that wraps around or a bow, which is the ultimate feminine tie.
These boots with butterfiles embroidered up the sides takes a boring nude boot and turns it into something more interesting and feminine.
Colourful Suede
Suede is a softer finish, which is more yin than a hard leather finish which is more yang. Though a shiny finish, like patent also adds a more glamorous feel that adds to the shoes femininity. Add colour to your shoes to take them away from looking more Classic and into something with a little. more personality
These are the shoes I painted recently (click here to find out more).
Decorative Cutouts
These are like lace on your underwear, and decorative cutouts on your shoes create a beautifully feminine feel as well as add interest to your shoes.
I fell in love with these boots the moment I saw them - the rose gold finish on the backs with the decorative cutouts make them both practical and interesting!
