Here I am! The past week and a half threw me off balance, and I fell behind in my daily posts for the Ulitmate Blog Challenge. We started homeschooling again, and there’s a troop year to plan, and my toddler decided that sleep was for the birds. Sometimes, it feels like every bit of chaos from every ever-expanding edge of the universe is coming at you at once.
But here I am. At first, I didn’t want to post because I hadn’t posted in a couple of days, and I needed to “catch up.” Then I was really behind, and I was like, “Eh, why bother?” But then today, I permitted myself to post today without worrying about yesterday’s, the day before that’s, or the day before that’s. Sometimes, that’s all you have to do: Give yourself permission to pick up where you are without backtracking to get things “perfect.”
That’s the thing when life gets chaotic, it’s too easy for that perfectionist to come in and say, “Right now isn’t the right time because you haven’t done all the things that you thought you needed to do for it to be a perfect time.” or “I’ll start when things settle down again.” or “I want to volunteer, but I don’t know if I can find the time.”
If you’re looking for the perfect time, I’m here to tell you there is never a more perfect time than now. If you want to wait until life settles down a bit, I have it on good authority that life gets more chaotic, not less—though your ability to ride the waves gets better as time goes on. If you don’t think you can start until all the ducks are in a row, start. Pour yourself into the world. Oddly enough, balance seems to come easier when you’re living life instead of waiting for balance to come before you start doing everything you dream of doing.
So here is your permission to jump in there even though it’s not the right time. I did, and here I am on day 19 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge getting a post up when in past years I would have just cut my losses and waited until it was the perfect conditions to post day 19 – which would have meant also missing days 20, 21, 22… you get the picture.
