Find Me by J.S. Monroe

By Pamelascott

Five years ago, Rosa walked to the end of the pier in the dead of night. She looked into the swirling water, and jumped. She was a brilliant young Cambridge student who had just lost her father. Her death was tragic, but not unexpected.

Was that what really happened? The coroner says it was. But Rosa's boyfriend Jar can't let go. He sees Rosa everywhere - a face on the train, a figure on the cliff. He is obsessed with proving that she is still alive. And then he gets an email.

Find me, Jar. Find me, before they do...

Is Rosa really dead? And, if she is, who is playing games with the ones she left behind?

[It is five years since her funeral, but Jar recognises her face at once]

Find Me turned out to be much better than I thought it was going to be.

The book is a great example of misdirection. For more than half of the book I was led to believe certain events about what happened to Rosa five years ago. We are told she faked her own death and given reasons why. I didn't like the reasons and was actually considering not finishing the book when the author pulled the rug out from under my feet.

I love books that have twists, turns and crazy events I just don't see coming. I love it when books surprise me. Find Me pulls this off. Well done. I had no idea what really happened to Rosa and am still reeling from the turn of events.

Find Me is fast-paced thanks to the very short chapters. The book is well-written and held my attention from start to finish. The book has different narrators including Jar, Rosa and the villain. I enjoyed seeing events unravel from more than one perspective.
