I've been working on this latest acrylic painting for some time because it is very detailed. Today I added the final touches.
First I worked with burnt sienna, using a small fine-tipped brush to paint in previously drawn sections. I worked again at subverting the "circle" shapes, finding angles and lines to fill in with the burnt sienna. After that I did the same thing with the burnt umber. This process, as well as yesterday's painting session, helped give that sense of moving from lighter colors in the center of the canvas to darker colors on the outer edges.
I also continued to work at strengthening the intersections of angular lines, allowing them to make paths for the eye to follow across the canvas. In the end there is a bit of a mosaic feel to this pattern--a sense of interlocking shapes.
Canvas #166, 40" x 30" acrylic on canvas.
