Film Noir

Size: 36 x 48 x 1.5 in

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Description: This piece depicts the stylish but yet intriguing mood of the Hollywood crime dramas of the 1940’s – 1950’s. Directors such as Orson Welles, Fritz Lang, and Billy Wilder would draw the audience into a nail biting frenzy by a few visual suggestions and manipulate the viewer into “seeing” and believing character and movie details that did not actually occur.
In the painting Film Noir people, buildings and intentions combine into one statement. Is it a view from the top of a skyscraper or are you in a dark and ominous back alley? Or is this the view from a character falling in our Film Noir story? The emotions of suspense, intrigue, mystery are contained within the parameters of the canvas. The sides of the canvas give the viewer the Kukla loris effect that is prevalent in every film noir movie.
