For my fifth black and white abstract on paper, I began with a palette knife, spreading thick mars black paint from a tube onto the paper. I did this roughly, leaving the white paper showing through here and there.
Then I used a thinner paint to brush on lines, allowing the paint to drip and splatter. I worked at getting a sense of heaviness toward to the bottom and lightness at the top. This ended up giving the painting a landscape feel.
