Every year FIAC, the largest and most prestigious Paris art fair, presents Hors les Murs, an installation of artworks in the Tulieries, Jardin de Plantes, Place Vendome, and Berges de Seine.
This year before the fair even started, there was a much talked about/much tweeted controversy. Artist Paul McCarthy installed a sculpture titled “Tree”, his take on a modern day Christmas tree. However most people construed it as a giant butt plug, creating quite a stir. In fact McCarthy was slapped three times by the same person who feigned outrage. The same night, vandals deflated the sculpture and laid it on its side. McCarthy, saddened and disappointed by the response pulled the (butt) plug on the sculpture.
Below are photos of works from the Tuileries and Jardin du Plantes.
Hors les Murs runs till November 1.
