Fergie and Josh Duhamel announced on Thursday that they have separated after 8 years of marriage.
“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” the couple told People in a joint statement. “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public.”
The statement continued, “We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
Fergie and Josh who were both raised Catholic, has been seen attending St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Brentwood, California with their 4 year old son Axl, who was also baptized there.
On an episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter, Fergie shared with Oprah how an encounter with God changed her life and got her off drugs.
“My brain had been playing a lot of tricks on me… I started getting really paranoid,” Fergie revealed. “So I went one day into this church and I thought that the FBI and the SWAT teams were outside the church.”
“So I had a conversation with God and I said, ‘Alright, if I go out there and the FBI and the SWAT team’s not out there, then it’s the drugs and I’m stopping.’ I went outside of the church and there was no SWAT team, there was no FBI, just me and God,” she explained. “And I kept my promise. That day. That was it.”
