Feeling Slumpish…

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

I’ve been distracted lately.  Instead of writing reviews, I sit down at my computer and read The Mary Sue, or update my Goodreads lists, or obsessively check my hold lists on Overdrive.  These are things that should take a few minutes, but somehow keep me from the business of writing blog posts and keeping my blog up to date.  And the more I feel I need to write a post, the less I want to do it.

The month is half over and I’ve posted twice. And I had to make myself write the last one.

Over the years I’ve seen my favorite bloggers go through various slumps, so I’m not panicking just yet.  Sometimes, it’s just that family or work needs to come first.  Sometimes it’s because the blog starts to feel like a chore and you feel like you’re going through the motions.  And then I’ve seen some bloggers get to a point where it just doesn’t feel right any more.

Right now, my head’s not in it, but I think I just need a couple of weeks to sit back. I really need to focus on work for a bit, and I’ve had some other projects and commitments taking up my time.  I’m cutting out book clubbing and a few other things, just to simplify.

Traveling always disrupts my blogging, and we just got back from a lovely trip to our favorite place, Sonoma CA.  We visited my husband’s sister for Mother’s Day, went to a wine tasting event, and spent time exploring the area.  We’ve decided that’s where we’re moving when we retire (though that’s more than a few years away).  Next week we’re off to visit a friend in Virginia Beach and we get to spend a romantic couple of days in Williamsburg.

I think the other problem is I’m still frustrated by the look of my blog.  I’ve been thinking about taking the leap of re-doing the look of the blog, which means time, energy, and thought.  Does that mean finding a theme I like better, or self-hosting?  Thinking about it overwhelms me pretty quickly (though I’ve gotten some good recommendations that I mean to follow up on).

Between a reading slump and a blogging slump, I’d definitely choose the latter. I’ve been reading like mad lately, and it’s all good.  In fact, I have so many books I need to tell you about.  I just need to sit down and actually do it.

Hope you’re having a good May and enjoying spring/summer wherever you are.  My garden is exploding with all the recent rain, and I can’t wait for summer.  Have you hit a blogging or reading slump lately?  What did you do to resolve it?
