Way back in 1966, Simon and Garfunkel released an album called Parsley, Sage Rosemary, and Thyme. One of the tunes on that album was the 59th Street Bridge Song.
The song starts off exactly like this...
Slow down, you move too fastYou got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy...
The alternate title for this song is Feeling Groovy, and that's just how the NYC Office (aka Sarah) and I felt when we had the good fortune of attending this year's NYC Whisky Extravaganza, which just happened to take place under the 59th Street Bridge (aka the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge) at a venue called Guastavino's.
The venue itself was quite spectacular...
I got no deeds to do, no promises to keepI'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning-time drop all its petals on me
Life I love you, all is groovy
Ba da da da da da da da
Ba da da da da da da da
Ba da da da da da da da
The cool blue lights, open floor plan, dramatically vaulted ceilings, and views of the city inspired you to mix and mingle with all of the whisky lovers and brand representatives in attendance. Everyone was friendly and ready to talk about whatever they were drinking or pouring.
And speaking of drinking.
Whenever we attend events like this, we're always on the lookout for something new, or at the very least, something that we've never tried before...
A 100% Rye from The Netherlands.
Alabama style whiskey made with apples.
Glenmorangie's latest that comes in Willy Wonkie inspired packaging.
Some single barrel, cask strength beauties from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and the Classic Casks.
A peated Glenlivet Nadurra.
We tried all of that, and we had some tasty snacks too...
As I look back on our 2+ hours of solid food and drink at this year's NYC Whisky Extravaganza, the final stanza of Feeling Groovy pops into my head...

Many thanks to Gabby Shayne of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America for showing the NYC Office and Yours Truly a damn good (and groovy) time at this year's NYC Whisky Extravaganza!
