The Day the Music Died Day (1959)
- This day refers to a plane crash occurring just after 1:00 a.m. local time on February 3, 1959, near Clear Lake, Iowa, United States. The crash killed three American rock and roll musicians: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P.
The Big BopperRichardson, as well as the pilot, Roger Peterson. The term was popularized by Don McLean in his 1971 song
American Pie.
Four Chaplains Memorial Day (1943)
- Commemorates four chaplains (George Fox, Alexander Goode, Clark Poling, John Washington) who sacrificed their life belts and lives on February 3, 1943, when the SS Dorchester was torpedoed off Greenland during WWII.
