Featuring Red in New Painting on Paper

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

Continuing to use watercolor blocks to paint on, I began this one with a focus on bright reds. I started painting with a brush, beginning with cadmium red, then adding lighter reds and oranges to yellow at the top.  Below the red, I added cadmium red deep and alizarin crimson.

I used unbleached titanium and parchment for the background, blending in other colors, including cobalt green, burnt umber, and blue.  Next I used a palette knife to make thick strips of cadmium red and cadmium red deep.  In the background, I did the same with the parchment.  Finally, I drew some sketchy lines with burnt umber.
