Featured Abstract Artist Jonathan Eckel

Philadelphia abstract artist Jonathan Eckel is marvelous with color, form and composition.  I love the intricacies in some of his paintings, which almost create puzzles for our eyes to solve.

Jonathan recently exhibited a painting in the "Flirting with Abstraction" show at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chester Hill, PA, which is dedicated to the work of Philadelphia artists.  His work has been shown at a number of Philadelpia galleries, including Dalet Gallery, JSF Contemporary, and Knapp Gallery.  He's also had shows in Colorado, New Jersey, and Vermont.

I love the "white" paintings Jonathan did in 2010, with white not only as a background, but a strong force within the composition.  His white feels alive and adds energy to the image.

Jonathan says that he's discovered a new sense of freedom in his recent painting.  "By applying the paint intuitively, I create a raw rhythm of line, color and shape.  I adhere to this process through daily ritual, constant digestion, and the utmost respect for my craft."
