Favorite 100 Songs of 2019 :: #20-1

Ventipop's favorite 100 songs of 2019 is the culmination of all the best new songs I've heard and featured over the past year. It's not the same songs you'll hear on every other site's top 100 song list. Because it's my fucking favorite 100 songs...not theirs. Here are songs #20-1.

20.  “Shadow On The Sea” by CHAMPS

I didn’t have to justify my invitation
You know I’m only towing the line
You can be the starlight in my constellation
Lately, it’s a matter of time

19. “Pool Party” by Rudy Willingham

Where Ya All Goin’ To?

18. “Death By A Thousand Cuts” by Taylor Swift

Our songs, our films, united, we stand
Our country, guess it was a lawless land
Quiet my fears with the touch of your hand
Paper cut stings from my paper-thin plans
My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust
Tryna find a part of me you didn’t take up
Gave you so much, but it wasn’t enough
But I’ll be alright, it’s just a thousand cuts

17. “Beautiful Is Boring” by BONES UK

They said they did not want my face in their magazine
’Cause I’m not beautiful
Am I the most fucking fantastic freak
You’ve ever seen?

16. “Lo/Hi” by The Black Keys

You get low (Low) like a valley
Then high (High) like a bird in the sky
You get low (Low) ‘cause you’re angry
Low, high, high, low

15. “Stones” by Bruce Springsteen

The dirt-brown winter field, a thousand black crows cover the ground
You say those are only the lies you’ve told me
Those are only the lies you’ve told me
The autumn wind blows through the trees
As the dark leaves come tumbling down
You say those are only the lies you’ve told me
Those are only the lies you’ve told me
I walk a highway washed in sun
I feel weight gather on my tongue
I woke up this morning with stones in my mouth
You said those are only the lies you’ve told me
Those are only the lies you’ve told me

14. “Moral of the Story” by Ashe

I said young people fall in love
With the wrong people sometimes
Some mistakes get made
That’s alright, that’s okay
You can think that you’re in love
When you’re really just in pain
Some mistakes get made
That’s alright, that’s okay
In the end it’s better for me
That’s the moral of the story babe

13. “Karma” by AJR

‘Cause I’ve been so good, I’ve been working my ass off
I’ve been so good, still, I’m lonely and stressed out
I’ve been so good, I’ve been so good this year
And I’ve been so good, but it’s still getting harder
I’ve been so good, where the hell is the karma?

12. “One Little Soldier” by Regina Spektor

You’ve got them real long legs
Won’t you tell us a story?
I could listen to you dance all day
You’ve got them real long legs
Won’t you tell us a story?
Doesn’t even matter what you say

11. “Worthless” by Anna Tivel

It’s hot as the devil, the rubber and the metal
Black smell of something burning
I never did wrong, i never did gamble
Til the day you called me worthless
Two quarters in my hand, nothing else in my pocket
I’m a fuse box sparking in the summer grass
I’m a hooded figure, a crazy killer
I’m a dead man walking on the overpass

10. “bury a friend” by Billie Eilish

Step on the glass, staple your tongue (ahh)
Bury a friend, try to wake up (ah ahh)
Cannibal class, killing the son (ahh)
Bury a friend, I wanna end me

9. “Eden’s House” by Milky Chance

I’ve been to my place without a hand
I framed it like a photograph
We glorify our golden days
And all we do is fade away
And even on a silent day
Still I don’t know
Where I wanna go on the run
To Eden’s house

8. “Something In The Air” by Winnetka Bowling League

An out-of-business restaurant was someone’s dream once
I can still see you in college, putting on your cherry lip gloss
But time did what it does, and it happened to us
The people who we thought we’d be call out who we’d become
And I came back to Manhattan like a tourist does
From a taxi, seatbelt fastened to which pocket I keep cash in
I sit down in Union Square, I could feel you here, I swear
But I turned around to see it’s really nothing
It’s just something in the air
It’s just something in the air

7. “Circles” by Post Malone

Let go, I got a feeling that it’s time to let go
I said so, I knew that this was doomed from the get-go
You thought that it was special, special
But it was just the sex though, the sex though
And I still hear the echoes (The echoes)
I got a feeling that it’s time to let it go, let it go

6. “Memories” by Maroon 5

Here’s to the ones that we got (oh oh)
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not
’Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we’ve been through (no, no)
Toast to the ones here today (aye)
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
’Cause the drinks bring back all the memories (aye)
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you

5. “the greatest” by Lana Del Rey

I miss New York and I miss the music
Me and my friends, we miss rock and roll
I want shit to feel just like it used to
And, baby, I was doing nothing the most of all
The culture is lit and if this is it, I had a ball
I guess that I’m burned out after all

4. “Right Round The Clock” by Sorry

She rolls around with an entourage
She’s all dressed up like a movie star
With those flash, flash eyes from behind the bar
With those fuck me eyes (eyes, eyes, eyes, eyes)
You drive yourself crazy
Right round the clock

3. “All Some Kind of Dream” by Josh Ritter

I saw my brother in a stranger’s face
I saw my sister in a smile
My mother’s laughter in a far off place
My father’s footsteps in each mile
I thought I knew who my neighbor was
We didn’t need to be redeemed
Oh, what could I have been thinking of?
Was it all some kind of dream?

2. “The River” by Cat Clyde

As the summer ends I think of Alaska by it’s heart
You imagine the seasons
Want you by my side
And I know this winter
Is going to be especially cold
Like the river
I roll along
Today I’m here
Tomorrow I’m gone

1. “bad guy” by Billie Eilish

So you’re a tough guy
Like it really rough guy
Just can’t get enough guy
Chest always so puffed guy
I’m that bad type
Make your mama sad type
Make your girlfriend mad tight
Might seduce your dad type
I’m the bad guy, duh
