Fatherson have returned after fifteen months away with new single ‘Piece of Mind’ – a song that Ross Leighton says combines his love of The Rat Pack with Radiohead in an ‘Ode to friendship and knowing that people have got your back even if you feel like you’ve got ten brains and haven’t figured any of them out yet’.
Opening with experimental tones and new wave-inspired guitar work, Ross talks through his troubles – ‘I didn’t leave the house today until it was pretty much tomorrow’ – and leaves a stream-of-consciousness thought process that captures the anxious feelings he’s experiencing with repeats of ‘Sometimes you believe in yourself too much’ as the band head into an unexplored, jazz-infused direction.
