By Dudepins @dudepins

Most of you have known your dad your whole life, and every year the question comes up: what to get for Father’s Day? A watch? A coffee maker? It seems like every list you’ve seen is full of the same old stuff. As the destination for manly content, Dudepins knows exactly what guys are pinning, liking, and secretly wishing for.  We’ve made some carefully selected suggestions in this list with your dad in mind – most of them original (and just a few cliches). Check out these 20 best Father’s Day gift ideas for your dad.  Or you.  There’s some pretty awesome stuff here.

20.  Meat temperature probe. – Buy it

If your dad takes the barbecue seriously, he needs one of these. I’ve done the research and found the most impressive one; it evens comes with a cheat sheet for cooking perfection.  Monitor the internal temperature of your slab of meat from the couch and consult the chart to make sure it’s been done optimally rare, medium, or well.   (And if your dad’s not exactly a BBQ artist, this could save your jaws from another overcooked steak).

19.  A really, really nice pen. -Buy it

Nothing says class like a fine pen making the signatures.  Sure, he could stick to bics.  But your dad isn’t an average dude and his pens shouldn’t be either.  This one is a personal favourite, the lines on the body add structure to the design and make me think of longitude and latitude.

18.  Desktop media hub. – Buy it

In addition to providing a handy keyboard storing spot,  the best of these give you a couple of USB hubs for charging devices.  It’s sleek and looks good on any desktop.  He’ll never know how much he missed having one of these on his desk until you actually give it to him.

17. Golf Executive Putting Mat

Dad might need a little help with his short game.  Hook him up with a putting green so he can put in some, um, work on the links.  Seriously.  10 minutes a day on one of these will have him putting like Jack Nicklaus.  Then take him out for a round or two, but maybe before he gets too much practice.  (Put some money down and you might just win your gift money back).

16.  TV series on DVD/Blu-ray. – Buy it

Whether it’s an old favorite or something you think he might like, give him something to watch that’s a little more engaging than the same highlights over and over again.  We recommend Breaking Bad. Protip: start him off with the first few seasons and it’s a more meaningful and thought-out than just a single season.

15. Power tools -DeWalt circular saw – Buy it

Yeah, power tools.  Nothing feels more manly than a primed cutter on the bench, ready to tackle any task.  It might be a cliche, but odds are that your dad’s circular saw from 1990 just isn’t cutting it any more. Literally.  And after you give it to him, you can always for a little help around the house.

14. A classy set of cuff links – Buy it

These ones (in addition to looking sleek) are made from the seats of Yankee stadium, but he doesn’t have to be a baseball fan to appreciate some good style.  Cufflinks make the difference in a set-up, so maybe grab yourself a matching set. And it’s a great conversation starter.

13.  Universal charging station: – Buy it

Provides a spot for dad to put all his devices as they charge, so there’s no more battling with a mess of cords and plugs after this Father’s Day. This charging station has a plug for every kind of device, so whatever he needs juice for is covered.  I can think of about five spots in my house that could use one of these bad boys.

12. Some decent speakers. – Buy it

He doesn’t have to be an audiophile to appreciate a good set-up!  If his computer or TV is still hooked up to the stock speakers, it’s a good time for an upgrade.  Seriously.  You think you’re fine without them, but once you go HQ, you never, ever go back.   Pair it with his favorite CD for a more personal touch.

11. Urban warrior emergency preparedness survival kit. – Buy it

Not something he’s likely to buy for himself, but it could just bail him out of trouble; this pack has everything from duct tape to light sticks to a first aid kit… and it has a wicked name.  Urban warrior? Urban warrior.  I don’t know about you, but I’d feel like a jedi-ninja-caveman with a survival kit like this in the trunk.

10. Radar detector. – Buy it

Make sure it’s legal in your location, but from what I’ve heard the return on investment for one these little gadgets can be incredible.   Not that you our your dad has ever gone above the speed limit.  But, y’know, it might come in handy… one day.  This one’s loaded with extra features, detects more than 15 bands, and is even upgradable if you’re still not satisfied.

9.  Portable grill.  - Buy it

He’ll be the man at every beach trip, family reunion, and Father’s Day BBQ.  I got one of these for my dad and we use it camping, at family reunions… almost as much as his actual barbecue.  Another sweet gift that you might be able to enjoy the spoils of from time to time.

8. Four piece shaving set. – Buy it

This is worth it for the brush alone, which probably feels like angels massaging your cheeks.  An awesome man-to-man gift, it shows you know and understand the joys of a luxurious trim.  I’m a personal fan of this silver trim, as it probably goes best with any other sink-top decorations.

7. This tie organizer: – Buy it

5 stars and 173 reviews. If you’re on a budget, this is the one.  It’s a cool concept, and I might actually buy one of these for myself now…  I’m not a fan of my current tie organizer, and this one has a certain minimal vibe that I’m feeling in a big big way.  But it’s just a tie rack, let’s not get carried away.

6. Best. Dad. Ever. Father’s Day shirt. – Buy it

Another cliche, and I’m not really a fan of novelty tees but this one is actually kind of rad.  Another budget item.  It’s to the point, simple, and clean.  And you know what? I think every dad deserves to wear a tee like this at some point in his life.  A dozen colours are hard to pick from, but I’m partial to olive or charcoal.  What do you think?

5. DaVinci 500 Poker Set. – Buy it

Named after Leonardo himself, so you know it’s legit.  (He probably would’ve been pretty good at poker).  It’s important not to cheap out on these kinds of sets, and I think 50 bucks is a steal for this one: “each chip is made of clay composite resin with metal core for weight”. That’s the good stuff.  Challenge your dad to a few hands afterwards for yet another opportunity to win your money back.

4.  Toiletries bag. – Buy it

I’ve been sticking with the ziplocs for my stuff, but I know my dad likes to keep himself organized with something a little more functional on the go.  Make sure you grab a bag with a hook like this one for easy storage from a towel rung or shower curtain rod.  I like this idea, and it’s a front runner for my dad’s Father’s Day present this year; he could really, really use a replacement.

3. Swiss army knife. – Buy it

Another classic man-to-man gift, there’s no way your dad can’t have a use for one of these.  Check it out: we’re talking no less than 30 tools, and it’s less than a couple inches long.  I’m going to need to move onto the next item before I start geeking out too much; those Swiss guys really know what they’re doing.

2. A ‘Best Dad Ever’ t-shirt. – Buy it

We’re topping off the list with the most popular gifts (have a look at number one).  They’re the most popular gifts for a reason. Lame idea? Absolutely not. You have to be seen in public with this guy, and your dad’s sense of style is, well… your dad’s sense of style.  This button down right here is my favorite, and I might get it for my dad if I don’t nab it for myself. Common… this is the best list of Father’s Day gift ideas ever.

1. A Fancy, Sleek, Modern looking tie. – Buy it

Yup, there’s a reason it’s a classic Father’s Day present.   It might have crossed your mind already, but how many times have you passed on giving your dad a tie because it’s expected? There’s nothing wrong with a quality, thoughtfully selected tie (and how awesome is this burgundy?).  If it still doesn’t feel like enough, take him out for a few brews as well.  Actually… do that anyways.  He’s your dad.
