Story: Father of the Bride starts when a self-made Cuban-American Billy Herrera (Garcia) has created the perfect life for his family. Well, he believes it to be perfect, despite his marriage to Ingrid (Estefan) falling apart. However, it is his daughter Sofia’s (Arjona) sudden decision to marry a Mexican Adan (Boneta) that upsets him most.
This sends Billy down a path of needing to learn to accept his daughter’s choice. However, it is a struggle for him as he has always wanted the best for her and believes she deserves better.
Verdict on Father of the Bride
Father of the Bride is a romantic comedy following a successful businessman struggling to deal with his daughter’s choice of husband. He must come to terms that she is happy and that she can live her own life, not the one he always wanted for her.
This plays into the typical story where a father must learn to accept their daughter’s decision. They must learn that family is important and that sometimes love can come from the strangest places. There isn’t much that we haven’t seen before but the message is still important and real.
Final Thoughts –Father of the Bride is a by-the-book romantic comedy.
