A 12 year old girl from Galnewa area reportedly had walked 12 kilometers to reach the police station and complain that her father was abusing her sexually.
Galnewa police managed to arrest a father of the 12-year-old girl, who had allegedly sexually abused his daughter since 2019, on Monday (26).
The girl had reached the police station which is located 12 kilometers away from the residence, alone to lodge the complaint.Police had arrested the suspect while he was fleeing the area.
The arrested suspect is a 35-year-old ex-military person from Gampola, who had moved to the Galnewa area about three months ago, the police said.
The victim has stated the police that her father raped her on multiple occasions since she attained age in 2019.
It was reported that the mother of the victim had left for the Gampola area for a job about five days ago and the father had sexually abused her during this period as well. Accordingly, the girl had reached the police station to lodge the complaint.
Police were to produce the suspect before the courts and the victimized girl was to be inspected by the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital’s JMO.
