Fat Hippo Underground

Fat Hippo has been on my 'to visit' list for some time, so when Andrew and I were recently in Newcastle, we popped to the fairly new Fat Hippo Underground to test their burgers out. Safe to say we were definitely impressed!
The decor inside is lovely, quirky yet comfortable and I love the way the food is served on trays. Perfect for messy eaters like myself!

I opted for the Hangover 3; breaded chicken topped with melted cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce in a toasted ciabatta bun with skinny fries. Delicious! 

Andrew went for the Texas BBQ; double patty, bacon, melted cheese, BBQ sauce and two huge onion rings, served in a brioche bun with wedges. I think I'd be right to say it's the best burger he's ever had. 

Fat Hippo grind and blend their famous burgers on site everyday so you know you're going to get some top-notch food that's fresh and incredibly tasty.

There's no way I could've managed a dessert but next time I definitely wanna get one of their milkshakes. I didn't realize they offered them until I'd asked for my usual (diet coke) and spotted a couple on another table with some huge milkshakes. 

Fat Hippo Underground is the latest member of the Hippo family. Located on Shakespeare street it's right in the heart of the city center and well worth a visit. Our meal came to just over £20 including our drinks and for the quality of the food, I'm really pleased with that. I think we're planning to visit the original Fat Hippo in West Jesmond soon - though it's worth noting don't try to visit that one on a Monday, as it's closed!
