As we embark on our month of Political London-themed posts, this story caught our eye in last night’s Evening Standard…
MPs have been banned from keeping a cat in the Commons to hunt mice because of fears it would get too fat on their leftovers to catch vermin.
Commons chiefs rejected an offer from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for a cat for the Palace of Westminster, which is infested by mice.
At least two things to take umbrage with, here, one feels:
• Looking forward to expense claims such as “7% of meal allowance to be charged against leftovers for the Westminster cat.”
• Westminster is “infested by mice?” Most would have it that the rodents most associated with Westminster are a bit larger than that…
