Let’s Recast a Film
You know how us film fans always want to recast a film, well today we play the role of producer and this script has turned up on our desk. The next job is to cast the film as if it the year is 2016, the rules are as simple you can’t use anyone who is in the original film however good or bad you think the film is. So without further ado let’s cast this movie.
Having re-watching the terrible remake of this I thought I would give my pick for a potential remake to make this remake actually work.
Film: The Hitcher
Original Cast: Rutger Hauer, C Thomas Howell, Jennifer Jason Leigh
New Cast: Garret Dillahunt, Zachary Gordon, Elle Fanning
Why I have picked this star:
Rutger Hauer – Garret Dillahunt – John Ryder John I have gone with Garret mostly because I thought he was younger but amazingly he would actually be older that Rutger if it was made now. He does have the youthful look about him and this would be a war veteran character that has struggled leading him to become the killer.
C. Thomas Howell – Zachary Gordon – Jim Jim is the boyfriend of Nash that is using his flash car to drive across the country to spring break. I feel I want to create this character to be a teenager that has been planning his life with Nash for a long term future, not a party animal type of character.
Jennifer Jason Leigh – Elle Fanning – Nash Nash was recast as Grace in what was an opposite in the remake but this time I see a freshly turned 18 Elle to be the stronger female leading lady who has a future desire to be leader in the world. This was one of the reasons why I wasn’t impressed with the remake the female character has no depth to her and in the new generation we need a strong female lead.
How will this change the film: I would change certain parts of this film because I feel we need better character development not just two random college student traveling cross country I want to have to high school sweethearts that have a plan but could also be starting to drift apart because of how their lives are going. I would like the John character to come of charming and never look threatening as well as offering the two love bird worldly advice before showing his darker side. With these slight changes we should grow the characters a lot more making us side with the good and against the bad.
Will you be going to see this new version of the film?
Who would you rather see in this film?
