Fantastic foliage to spruce up any arrangement
As any florist will tell you, there are many different elements involved in designing the perfect floral display. Colour, shape, size, style, and flower selection are just some aspects that need to be considered. That said, not all of these aspects need to be applied to each and every flower arrangement. For example, if you send a bouquet of red roses, you need not add anything else to it. There's only one type of flower and one colour yet this bouquet is highly effective at conveying a message of love and romance.
Foliage is another element that is often included in various arrangements. Like flowers, greenery comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, colours, and textures. When many people think of foliage, it's quite common to imagine adding a few springs here and there to fill up a vase. However, they can be used in far more creative ways. Leaves can be woven, folded, layered, and you can even use leaves to form a collar around the vase.
If you create a short, compact style bouquet, why not use strands of thin foliage like bear grass, lily grass, or flax to create arches over the bouquet. Avoid placing all of your foliage in the same direction. Instead, you should crisscross them over one another for the best effect. Also, you don't need too many leaves to achieve the desired effect.
Larger leaves can also be clustered and arranged in the bouquet for splashes of green here and there. This strategy is great when you want to add texture and give your bouquet wonderful contrast. You can even use foliage to create a background or border for your bunch of fresh flowers.
Finally, if you want to conceal your vase, you can wrap one or more large flat leaves around the vase. Secure the leaves in place with decorative pins so that they will also serve as accessories rather than eyesores.
