Although Pyin Oo Lwin is one of the best holiday destinations for local people, you may not feel very entertaining with most of the places where local people visit. But if you know these places, it will be worth visiting to Pyin Oo Lwin while you are in Myanmar. Here is the list of famous places in Pyin Oo Lwin for tourists.

Candacraig Hotel

It was originally, British club of Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin) and was built in 1904. During the colonial era, the British club was the center of activities where people would meet for drinks, party, and sport.

It is located in a large compound, colonial pile comes with complete side turrets and accompanied by attractively manicured gardens. Many locals believe it’s is haunted. It is one of the Myaing of Pyin Oo Lwin (In Pyin Oo Lwin, 9 colonial buildings are renamed in Burmese word end with Myaing, e.g. Thiri Myaing, Gandamar Myaing, Nan Myaing etc).

Here is a post about my visit to Candacraig Hotel.

Mosque

It is located at the center point of Pyin Oo Lwin and near to the Purcell Tower of Pyin Oo Lwin. If you choose the hotel near that place, you can take a walk and take a picture of the Mosque and Purcell Tower.

This area is usually crowded and lively, and you can learn the living style of local people. Surrounding area of this Mosque still remains the style of old Pyin Oo Lwin.

The Tower from this mosque resembles a lighthouse and it is a very unique style.

Church of the Immaculate Conception

This is one of the earliest churches in Pyin Oo Lwin and was built in 1905.

Built in 1905, this is one of the earliest churches in Pyin Oo Lwin. The church founded the Tamil School as a neighboring school, which was nationalized in 1966. Now, this Tamil school becomes government middle school.

You can see very interesting photos which illustrated the development and history of this church on the walls of the church office in the Clergy House.

This colonial style building is functioning as a survey training center of Upper Myanmar. It is well maintained and operated. You may need to ask permission to go inside and take a picture of this building. But I was not allowed to go inside of the building when I visited there.

You can get one coffee and cake at the coffee bar.
