In starting Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis you don’t really have any idea of what everything is about. Our hero, Favaro, is a bounty hunter, he apparently has a rivalry with another bounty hunter and he meets a pretty girl who happens to not be what she seems to be. Also, they can summon demons.
I was completely hyped up about this. You see, the director is Keiichi Satou, who also happens to have directed Tiger & Bunny which is one of the best thing ever or nearly.
In the end, I think the hype died down a little for me, because the episode was dull. All they did was hint heavily that Favaro was a bad boy who tends to drink a lot, like girls a lot and brag a lot for things he never did.
The first episode went in a little too deep in character development and forgot a bit to introduce the plot. The plot part only came during the last few minutes of the episode, and, while it wasn’t all that interesting, at least it was something I wasn’t completely expecting.
The episode has a lot of fights between a lot of different people. It was action packed and they used the action to introduce characters. This is always something I really appreciate in anime, I never liked watching fights just for the sake of them.
I can’t say I really appreciated the action though, it was well-used and it fits the hero, but it was too much.
I don’t really like the hero either but I suspect this has been done on purpose. I don’t like any of the characters either for that matter. The only one to have had proper development was Favaro so I have a little hope in this domain but it’s still a bit sad.
The music was great though. As usual with Yoshihiro Ike.The voice acting was very good too, as expected with Go Inoue who’s playing the rival.
As I said the ending of the episode surprised me a little, I expected everyone to go on a journey together just like in any fantasy anime. Except they didn’t (yet). I suspect the journey will start next episode but things seem to be a little more interesting than what they looked like at the beginning. Especially considering this is adopted from a card game with a lot of half naked women.
