The C-119 cargo aircraft first flew in November 1947, with production ending in 1955 after more than 1,100 C-119s had been built. The Flying Boxcar was used extensively during the Korean War as a medium-range transport aircraft and as a gunship during the Vietnam War. The Royal Canadian Air Force acquired 35 new C-119Fs, later upgraded to C-119G standard. This example at the March Field Air Museum served with the RCAF, then entered civilian life as a contract firebomber and was later donated to the museum in 1988.
