option to transfer files. This tool will make data portability seamless for today’s generation.

A simple example of data portability is how Apple ecosystem works. You might be working on Macbook, but you can continue working on the same file on a different Apple product without any hassle.

Facebook is launching this tool only in Ireland as of now but will be globally launched in 2020. This tool makes things easier for the user and helps them to manage their photos and videos more straightforwardly.

Facebook wants to make sure that privacy and security are its top priorities with this new launch, so all the data transferred using it will be encrypted and users will be required to enter their password before the transfer is done. The tool is currently in the testing phase and Facebook plans to develop it further based on feedback from the community, as well as its conversations from stakeholders.

Steve Satterfield, Director of Privacy and Public Policy at Facebook, talked about the new launch in a blog post – here is what he said – Quoted

At Facebook, we believe that if you share data with one service, you should be able to move it to another. That’s the principle of data portability, which gives people control and choice while also encouraging innovation. Today, we’re releasing a tool that will enable Facebook users to transfer their Facebook photos and videos directly to other services, starting with Google Photos.
