Facebook and Google have said they will allow employees to continue working from home for the rest of the year.
The tech giants have announced plans to reopen their offices soon but are allowing for more flexibility in homework.
Google originally said it will keep its job from national politics until June 1st, but will extend it for another seven months.
Facebook said it would reopen its offices on July 6 when coronavirus blocks are gradually lifted.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that employees who need to return to the office will be able to do so in July with enhanced security measures.
But most employees who can do their work from home will be able to do so until the end of the year, Pichai added.
The announcement coincides with that of Facebook when several companies begin to implement their work strategies.
"Facebook has taken the next step in its return to the work philosophy. Today we announced that anyone who can do their work remotely can choose to do it until the end of the year," said a spokesman. "As you can imagine, this is an evolving situation as employees and their families make important decisions about their return to work."
Facebook is still determining which employees will join, the spokeswoman added.
The social media platform was among the first tech companies to ask their employees to start working remotely. Facebook gave employees $ 1,000 (£ 807) in bonuses for their home-based work and childcare costs.
The tendency to work from home may adapt to some companies as they redesign their office spaces to meet new social distance guidelines. Some employees are nervous about returning to work amid a global pandemic.
