Extraction 2 Has Released on Netflix and Here’s What You Should Expect

Extraction 2 brings back the muscular Chris Hemsworth as the tough guy mercenary Tyler Rake in an action thriller with a lot of firepower and a quaint set of logic flaws. The Sam Hargrave directorial with a screenplay by Joe Russo is packed to the brim with action content.

Didn’t Tyler Rake die at the end of the first Extraction movie? As it turns out, he didn’t. He was just very very infirm. His quasi dead body was found and after receiving treatment at a luxury hospital in Dubai, he became as good as new, rather quickly.

This time, Tyler Rake has to save his ex-wife’s sister and her kids from her Georgian mob-boss husband. We are not sure how the ex-wife funded an operation of that magnitude but let’s just ignore that and focus on the action.

Tyler’s handler Nik, played by Golshifteh Farahani, throws a lot of punches in this movie. He wasn’t involved in much action in the first movie. This time you’ll see him pull some close-quarter martial arts and stab baddies in the thigh with a serrated knife. You already expect to see Chris Hemsworth fight a lot in the movie, but this time he also does some dangling off glass towers. (Tom Cruise much?)

Idris Elba appears in a fine cameo as the guy who recruits Tyler for the job. Olga Kurylenko plays the ex-wife who has not forgiven her macho-man ex-husband’s behavior yet.

Overall, the movie is entertaining. Personally, I have seen better action thrillers, and this is not Hemsworth’s best. But You’ll have a good couple of hours if you are into non-stop action. Will it surpass the success of the previous movie? Only time and Netflix’s viewership data will tell.
