Exploring Induction Chilled Beam HVAC System

Posted on the 29 September 2020 by Ebaircontrol @ebaircontrol

Managing heating and cooling in your space is an integral part of maintaining the right temperature. Induction chilled beams are the perfect companion for providing sensible warm and cool temperatures in the area. The air induction beam is a distribution device with an integral coil that regulates the heat and cold in the space for maintaining the perfect temperature conditions.

Installing chilled beams is an excellent choice of an HVAC system to maintain the atmospheric circumstances. Spaces that get too hot or too cold can benefit drastically from an air induction beam. On the other hand, places where the regular circulation air can also use induction chilled beam for proper ventilation and air maintenance. They are also an energy-efficient way to maximize air management in the region.

If you need to install the best-chilled beams in your space, EB Air Control Induction Chilled Beams are the best choice. They are the perfect solution for Classrooms, Patient Care units, Offices, Libraries, and spaces where a large quantity of ventilation air is mandated for healthy indoors as compliant to the ASHRAE standard of 62.1.

Given the efficiency of mixing and output, these air induction beam units require low energy input/cost to generate maximum output. It results in low-cost, high comfort, cooling/heating units in the industry.

The built-in drain pan accumulates condensate in case of latent moisture extraction from coils due to infiltration or thermal body. This acts as a great fail-safe feature. High capacity cooling can be generated from each unit, which is greater than any traditional VAV type solution currently being used inside buildings. With the promise of ZERO MAINTENANCE, this is a GREEN and EFFECTIVE SOLUTION highly recommended for new installations.

Types of Air Induction Chilled Beams

Primarily, there are two types of induction beams – active beams and passive beams. Let’s have a look in detail at both of them.

Understanding Chilled Beam Systems: Passive and Active

Active Chilled Beam

In an active beam, the air is discharged through induction nozzles, which is then mixed with entrained air to ventilate the room. If you require sensible cooling, heating, or ventilation in a space, then active induction chilled beams are the best choice.

Active beams have ductwork where primary air is provided to the pressurized plenum within the duct. It is extremely efficient for maintaining and regulating normal temperatures in small to large spaces.

Passive Chilled Beam

On the other hand, a passive air induction beam doesn’t have any ductwork because there is no supply of primary air involved in the system. The passive beam depends on the induction coil for the natural buoyancy of air. Warm air rising above enters the coil as the chilled air drops down to maintain the temperature of the space.

Passive beams are excellent for supplementary cooling. They can be used with active chilled beams in the HVAC system where there is a high latent load to regulate the temperature.

If you want to keep the original ventilation system undisturbed, then passive induction chilled beams are perfect for your requirements. However, they should not be used for heating applications as there is a high possibility of water entering the coil due to stratification.

In the next blog, we will cover about induction unit vs chilled beam.
