Verdict: Disturbing Thriller
Story: Excess Flesh starts as we get to see Jill (Orr) and Jennifer (Loveless) to roommates that have a very different mind-set on life, one likes to part while the other prefers the quiet life. We see how Jill is desperate trying to lose weight to become the perfect figure expected from Hollywood while Jennifer can eat anything and have the perfect body.
We see how Jennifer pushes Jill around taking advantage of their friendship and how Jill has struggled to find work since moving in. we can feel the tension between the two rising as the story unfolds leading to Jill taking drastic measures against Jennifer as she looks to bring them closer, but just how far will she go?
Excess Flesh is a thriller that takes us along a very disturbing path, the big plus are that we are drawn in to care about Jill because of the way she is treated, but once she hits her limits we instantly get to care about Jennifer because of what has happened in the past. This film does something very clever by leading you down one path while you could miss all the clues for the final outcome of the film. I will say the story can be hard to keep up with but once you piece together everything it will leave you shocked.
Actor Review
Bethany Orr: Jill is the roommate of Jennifer who has self-esteem issues about her weight and appearance, she has struggled to find a job but lives with Jennifer forces her into feeling bad about herself. When she has finally had enough she locks up Jennifer to get her revenge for the way she has been getting treated. Bethany is great in this leading role as we see the many different mind-sets she has to go through.
Mary Loveless: Jennifer is the roommate of Jill’s she is a work lady that loves to party but is more interested in looking beautiful making anyone else feel bad especially Jill. She finds herself letting Jill down too often as she becomes the victim to her obsession of torture. Mary is good in this role where she does get pushed to the limits.
Wes McGee: Rob is the love interest of Jill’s that has been involved with Jennifer in the past, he comes off as a nice guy but his history also helps drive Jill into the decision. Wes is good in this easy supporting role that doesn’t get enough screen time as most of his character is involved in the Jill & Jennifer conversation.
Support Cast: Excess Flesh has a supporting cast that we only see a couple of times with very few making an impact in the overall story.
Director Review: Patrick Kennelly – Patrick brings us a film that will disturb the audience with certain scenes and keeping us on edge throughout.
Horror: Excess Flesh gives us disturbing moments that enter it into the horror because you will have to look away on certain moments.
Thriller: Excess Flesh keeps us on edge as we wonder what will happen next.
Settings: Excess Flesh keeps nearly everything inside the apartment which helps with everything questioning the mind of Jill.
Suggestion: Excess Flesh is one for the horror fans out there to watch as it is one of those films that will make you look away. (Horror Fans Watch)
Best Part: Final outcome.
Worst Part: The food scenes, but only because I find it horrible watching people eat.
