Everything You Need To Know About Ants

By Kravelv @kravelv

They are a household guest that nobody wants but nearly everyone gets, ants can be troublesome when they pay a visit to your home. A recent worldwide survey indicated that ants are one of the most irritating pests for homeowners. Although most homeowners look at ants in disgust in their homes, it’s important to remember that ants can also pose a health and safety risk. Ants can contaminate food and even cause damage to your property. This infographic from Any Pest outlines some of the most common ant species and details the damage they can do.

Without the proper equipment and experience, it can be difficult to identify ants. It is possible to identify some of the most common species of household ants without the help of a microscope. The most common ant species that can invade our homes or the surrounding areas include carpenter ants, pavement ants, thief ants, house ants, acrobat ants and pharaoh ants.

Once you’re aware of which species of ant you have in your home, you will be able to define what kind of damage it causes, what kind of control measures are needed and where they are likely to nest. Ants are commensal pests. This means that they like to live close to people and eat similar things to humans including: meats, sugar, liquids and starches. As a result, they can be found indoors near moisture and food sources. Ants often hide under appliances, in wall voids, beneath floors and behind window frames. For more details on ants and prevention tips, let’s check out this infographic!
