Everything Everyhing have shared ‘Arch Enemy’, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming album ‘Re-Animator (out on 21 August and available to pre-order here).

Following the sublime ‘In Birdsong’, Jonathan Higgs says the new single is about ‘a modern-day protagonist searching for a meaningful God. Finding only a congregation of greed, toxicity and waste, in the form of a sentient fatberg in the sewer, he duly prays to it, willing it to purge the decadent world above that has created it’.

The dark subject matter and often macabre lyrics (‘Cut your body, they slice your teats’; ‘I was lonely, lonely my enemy. You put the poison into me’) are offset against abstract time signatures and funk-laden melodies. There’s a delicate purity in Jonathan’s vocals, especially when he finishes with a forceful shout to his rival of ‘Time to show your face!’
