There's no better excuse than Christmas to get out and about and try some new things, in new places. Today I was in Dundee at Overgate shopping centre checking out their food and drink Christmas market. It's not the biggest market but what I did like was that even for an avid stalker of Christmas markets like me, there were stalls I hadn't seen!
I thought it best to start as I meant to go on, with some gin! Dundee Gin flavoured with marmalade. Can you get more Dundee than marmalade? This was yummy. Smooth gin with a strong marmalade taste. This would make some exceedingly tasty cocktails. It was lush on its own over ice. I feel a "Merry Christmas me" purchase happening.
The Little Tipple Trailer also had some Cairn o' Mohr mulled cider.
I had my eye on this for later, or would Bailey's Hot Chocolate win? Decisions?!
Another big decision was sweet or savoury? The Crepe Shack had a list that just shouted buy me, so I did!
But who would win? Savoury....
or sweet?
The cheese, ham and beetroot chutney won. A gooey wrap of cheese and ham with a sweet beetroot chutney. Top stuff.
A filling lunch today and washed down with some of the mulled cider.
There was no need to freeze or stand about eating the crepe. In the middle of the market is a cosy yurt. Filled with tables, and even games to play when you want to chill out.
Other stalls include:-
PRIME STREET FOOD serving Asian and Mexican fusion burgers made with local meats, chickpea, tomato and pesto burgers, and chips with lemon and parmesan.
WILD FIRE PIZZA serving homemade wood-fired pizza with meat and vegetarian toppings including roasted vegetables, olives, salami, fresh basil, mozzarella and goats cheese.
WILD AND SMOKY serving barbecued roast pork, steak burger, smoked mac 'n' cheese, moinks (smoked meatballs wrapped in bacon in barbecue sauce), festive smoked turkey, and chips (crispy fried in beef dripping).THE PRAGUE SHACK serving beef goulash with dumplings, duck confit with braised red cabbage and dumplings, chicken schnitzel with Christmassy potato salad and Czech rosti with spices & sauerkraut.
Inside the centre, I just had to visit Santa. The magic word - Free - and being able to book a spot online was handy (Click Overgate Shopping to book).
Merry Christmas!
