As she is dying from a terminal illness Ann Lord is about to shake the lives of her two daughters Nina and Constance as they discover a tragedy from her youth.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Evening is a rather interesting journey as we follow Ann’s story back to when she was younger, before her husband and daughters and the possible great love of her life. This all coming about during her impending death from an illness with a night nurse tending to her.
Constance is a wife and mother who is very content with her life and looks down on her sister Nina who is a rather restless single woman without a lot of direction in her life. The pair are total opposites and clash a little bit, especially with the revelations from their mother, wondering if it is true or just something she had been dreaming about.
Can they actually work out if Harris was real or not? Everything we see as a viewer takes us back to that time and we see that some moments or to go with the title of the film some evenings will stay with us forever. Even if they are no longer talked about, it does raise the question of wonfering when we enter our final moments that we accept and realize who the actual love of our life is. Ok, maybe that could be a little bit extreme for this film but that was something that I picked up from watching.
We also get to see how falling in love with someone can very quickly and easily end a friendship, that being with Lila who was also in love with Harris. I mean does anyone really understand why everyone seemed to love him? As he didn’t come across as someone massively special or amazing.
The flashbacks were done in a good way and the cast is certainly very impressive with some good performances, Vanessa Redgrave and Claire Danes sharing the role of Ann. We even have two mother/daughter combos with the cast having Natasha Richardson taking on the role of her own mothers daughter and then Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer taking on the same character. Got to give it to the film that it is a very female character driven one and that is always good to watch.
