Hello all. Welcome to He Said, She Said Theater. Please enjoy today’s performance of She Took To Twitter: A Play in Three Acts #tooktotwitter

Act One:

Westworld robutt, Evan Rachel Wood, had some unkind words for Ben Affleck on Twitter yesterday. Paper Magazine tweeted a story in which Kevin Smith, at a recent Q&A for an Outfest screening of 1997’s Chasing Amy (via Gay Star News), recounted the time, 20 years ago, when Ben said of his onscreen kiss with co-star Jason Leea man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face.” Paper magazine said that Kevin said that Ben also said “now, I’m a serious actor.

Summoning some Veda Pierce level histrionics, Evan Rachel Wood (ERW) responded on twitter with this:

Lordy, that escalated quickly!

If Ben had actually said this recently, her response might have been more widely applauded. However, since this second hand quote was from the stone ages in terms of mainstream actors playing gay for pay, lots of folks jumped in to defend (the then 27-year-old) Ben. In fact, you’ll notice that the original Tweet from Paper has been deleted, explaining on their website:

UPDATE: The original tweet of this article was phrased in a misleading way and did not accurately represent when Ben Affleck made the remarks Kevin Smith related last weekend at Outfest. It has since been removed.

Well, you’ve really stepped in it now, Paper Magazine, whoever you are! I’m just fucking with you. I know Paper Magazine, they gave us a VERY NSFW photo spread of Love & Hip Hop’s Milan Christopher. Gulp. (Click the NSFW link above if you like big dicks and you cannot lie.)

Act Two:

Most people on Twitter accused ERW of having a knee-jerk reaction to the headline, without bothering to have read the actual article. Not one to be assuaged by criticism (this is a woman who was engaged to Marilyn Manson after all), ERW doubled down on her hot take and added:

Sure ERW, we hear you, but context is key! Ben was being a typical 90’s kind of bro. Times have changed and Ben has changed, as many were quick to point out. I praise Jamiroquai (the patron saint of the 90’s) every day that the stupid shit I must have said in my 20’s shall forever remain unrecorded and unexamined by myself or anybody else.

Act Three:

And then this happened in the middle of writing this post. (Praise D.J. Khaled, the patron saint of the aught-tens, that I took a screenshot of the original tweets!)

I have deleted the thread because of the sickening things people have written in response. I dont want to give that kind of hatred a place.

Act Four:

Kevin Smith was live on Facebook last night with a 10 minute long video captioned “Apologies to Ben Affleck and Evan Rachel Wood!” trying to make everyone be friends again.
