Essential gardening tips for beginners

Are you planning on exploring gardening for the first time? Perhaps you did some planting when you were a child or several years ago but you aren't known for your green fingers. Not to worry, with these beginner gardening tips, you'll have a lush, flourishing garden before you know it!

Transporting flowers and plants requires a fair amount of care. It's a good idea to make sure that you have some kind of box or crate in your car to support the small pots while you drive. They are easily damaged if they fall over which is why you also need to drive with care. If possible, have somebody travel with you so that they can keep an eye on the plants.

When you visit your nursery, you might be tempted to buy just about everything in sight. The key is to start off small and don't bite off more than you can chew. Plants and flowers require care which means that buying less allows you to invest more time in each plant. If you buy too many plants all at once, you might not have the time to give them the level of care they need.

Remember, each plant enjoys different conditions. In other words, some plants love the sun while others prefer shade. Then there are those that enjoy morning sun but shade in the afternoon. Take note of the layout of your garden before planning any planting. Spend a day monitoring the sunlight and which areas receive the most and least amount of sun With this in mind, speak to an expert at the nursery and they can help you choose the best plants for your garden. They can also help you choose plants that are easy to grow and not too fussy.

Garden protectors are also great if you are concerned about critters destroying all your hard work. Fencing or netting can be installed around your garden to keep unwanted guests out! Once your garden is ready, you should take the next step and apply a layer of mulch. This helps the soil maintain moisture and it also keeps weeds at bay while making your garden look great!

When it comes to watering your garden, make sure that you do so regularly but don't flood the ground! Your watering schedule will depend on your soil, the types of plants, and the weather. Obviously, if it rains, there is no need to water your garden. Also, remember to water in the early morning or late in the evening. You do not want the sun to strike your wet plants because this causes them to burn.

There you have it! All the basic tips you will need to start your very own garden. Don't forget to invest in some basic gardening tools and gloves before you begin.
