Tell me a fairy tale, but it's a fairy tale that ends well ...
It is the beginning of the animated short made with the voice of Whoopi Goldberg by Extinction Rebellion. The Gigantic Change, which comes out on June 5 on Environment Day 2020, is a 3-minute film that warms the heart. We are in 2050, and men managed to save the world: at some point in history they realized that they were destroying it with their reckless choices and they joined together to protect it, thus managing to get out of the climate crisis.
Just as we are trying to plan and rebuild a new post-Covid world, the film shows that a brighter future is indeed possible. But this won't happen if we don't all act together. Immediately! Climate change is a serious threat to people of all ages and backgrounds. The need for collective action has never been greater.
With Extinction Rebellion - the British organization that believes it is a duty of citizens to rebel, using peaceful civil disobedience, against the criminal inactivity of governments - worked the team of Passion Pictures Studio, the creative agency that won an Oscar in 2017 for the best animated film with Piper. Together they chose Whoopi Goldberg, who in addition to being a renowned actress, is a well-known activist for environmental issues and who with her voice manages to give a perfect sense of gravity to the situation.
The urgency, moreover, clearly resounds in the short film. And underlining it is the main purpose of The Gigantic Change. After the film, viewers are directed to a simple page that illustrates the most effective actions that each of us can take to save the environment, from diet to civil disobedience.
