Enjoying Your Garden in Every Season

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

When flicking through any home or lifestyle magazine the phrase ‘outdoor living’ is thrown around constantly, but true outdoor living is more than just sitting out on a summer’s evening. Come rain or shine there are plenty of ways to make the most of your garden, so here are some ideas to help you get the very best out of your garden in every season.

 Spring

April showers are inevitable, but rather than letting the gray clouds get you down, find ways to make use of the spring weather and get your garden prepared for the summer. Sow vegetables in advance of the rain to get a great crop by the time you’re ready to harvest. You could also set up water butts and use the rainwater during the summer to keep your plants hydrated and happy. In between showers enjoy the fresh breezes and early sunshine of spring – even by doing something as simple as enjoying your morning coffee in the garden each morning for a little moment of peace at the start of the day.

Summer

As soon as the weather starts to warm up, most of us head outdoors – but there’s no need to go any further than your garden! During the bright summer days make the most of the weather and spend as much time outside as possible: bring chores outside to make them far more enjoyable. Anything from ironing to paperwork can be done away from the kitchen table so have a change of scenery and get some sun on your bones. If you work from home, take breaks from working indoors and bring your laptop outside – you’ll be surprised how much the variety can boost your productivity. Summer evenings are the perfect time to enjoy outdoor living, maybe even throw a barbecue for your friends and family – there’s nothing like the clink of glasses and twinkle of fairy lights over a light summer breeze.

Autumn

The start of autumn is great for some late summer sun, but even once it’s gone there’s plenty to do. Wrap up warm and have a hot chocolate in the garden: the colors are beautiful and it’s fantastic to just sit and enjoy the leaves drifting down. The evenings are also still pretty light, so why not invest in a fire pit and make the most of them even as the nights draw in.

Winter

You might think the winter months are made for retreating inside, but you’d be surprised just how much you can enjoy your garden during this time. Get some outdoor heaters and light that fire pit to carry on spending time outside, or if it’s just too nippy then stay indoors and watch the winter wildlife, as well as keeping a close eye on your plants. Installing glass doors can transform a room, as well as helping you to continue to make the most of your garden. Frameless Glass Curtains have some great options, which will bring natural light into the room as well as giving you a great portal to enjoy your garden all year round.
