Enjoy Mother's Day flowers for longer

Mother's Day is one of the most important days of the year and it's our chance to celebrate the most important women in our lives. While every country has its own traditions, one gift is popular around the world - fresh flowers. The key to making her smile when you send Mother's Day flowers is to ensure that you send the best quality bouquet. If you receive blooms for Mother's Day and you want them to last longer, here are some important tips.

Preparing your bouquet

As soon as your Mother's Day flowers are delivered, you need to get them out of any packaging and into some water. If you don't have a vase handy, simply place the bouquet in a bucket or sink of fresh water while you prepare the vase. Once ready, cut away the wrapping materials, trim the stems and arrange your blooms comfortably in a vase. Remember to choose a vase that is large enough to hold all of your blooms. If you have any leftover that do not fit, you can create a few bud arrangements too.
While trimming the stems, make sure that you trim the lower leaves too. You want to make sure that you don't have any excess plant material below the waterline. Trim the stems at an angle to allow for better absorption and add flower food to the vase water to increase vase life. Find the perfect spot for your flowers and make sure that you keep them out of the direct sun, wind, sources of heat and so on.

Regular maintenance

After enjoying your flowers for a couple of days, you may notice that the water level in the vase has gone down. You may even start to see some discolouration of the water. Either way, it is best to pour out the remaining water and replace it with fresh water. When you do, don't forget to add some more flower food to the fresh vase water. Check the stems of your Mother's Day flowers and feel for any slimy texture around the base of the stem. This slime is, in fact, bacterial growth and it can cause your flowers to perish prematurely. Trim the stems to create a fresh new surface for absorption. Repeat this every few days and remove any flowers that start to wilt.

Preserving flowers

If you want to keep your blooms even longer, you should consider a plan for preserving them. Depending on the type of flowers in your bouquet, you may like to press, dry or create wax flowers. Each of these ideas will help you hold on to your precious Mother's Day flowers for that much longer.
There you have it, with these handy tips, you can keep your Mother's Day flowers beautiful for longer and make the most of every precious petal. Remember, if you are planning on sending flowers to mum or motherly figure in your life, you should always choose blooms that are in partial bud form to ensure that they last as long as possible.
