ABOUT five million householders could be left struggling to pay their bills as energy prices look set to soar again, according to The Daily Mail.
The paper says consumer groups fear energy providers will increase their charges in the middle of winter, the period where people worry most about money.
According to the paper, industry insiders have warned a price hike from all of the major providers, British Gas, EDF, SSE, E.ON, Npower and Scottish Power, is inevitable either before or during winter.
Energy efficiency specialists The Eco Experts said: “Energy prices are spiraling out of control and this vicious cycle looks set to continue unless we look to getting our energy from other sources.
“It is a clear reminder old fashioned fossil fuels are expensive, as well as being bad for the environment, and consumers should look to making their homes more energy efficient to avoid wasting their hard-earned cash on bills.
“Residents should also look to generating their own energy, or gaining their energy from renewable sources, so they are not reliant on mega corporations. Solar panels are a great idea, because you generate your own energy for free. You also get paid a small sum by the government for the energy you generate, as well as a further sum for any excess you export back to the grid.”
Most of the energy groups said they will not increase prices in 2012, however there is no guarantee what will happen come January 1.
