1) Beth Behrs- 2 Broke Girls
I’m actually rooting for both 2 Broke Girls. I think they need to be recognized, if for no other reason than someone sitting down and saying “we really only need these two, and we can finally dump Jennifer Coolidge. She brings nothing to the show that these two brilliant actresses can’t.” Behrs is brilliant as a former rich brat having to come to terms with the wake up call of a lifetime: she’s poor now.
2) Kat Dennings- 2 Broke Girls
See above, but add more snark. Kat Dennings has never been better. She’s so rude, so inappropriate, Emmy doesn’t usually reward these performances from women. So it would kinda be groundbreaking.
3) Courtney Cox- Cougar Town
Not only did her show survive on TBS, she also had a storyline dealing with her father’s impending (potential) Alzheimers. She had both a comedic arc, and a dramatic arc. It seems like this might be the season to recognize Cox for real.
4) Julia Louis-Dreyfus- Veep
She’s better on Veep than she ever was on Seinfeld. Biting, intelligent, dominating, she’s the one of my five picks I’m positive will be nominated.
5) Ashley Rickards- Awkward
Not that the MTV series is even registering with Emmy voters, but wouldn’t it be great if Ashley broke through? I’m betting Amy Poehler (who is my secret 6th pick) gets picked instead.
