Yesterday, July 28, nominations were revealed to Emmy 2020. The Oscars for television, which every year crown the TV series and the programs that triumphed over the season, in 2020 decided to give an important signal. In fact, never as in this edition of the Emmy, the nominations saw the important presence of Afro-descendants nominated.
As many as 34.5% of the 106 nominations in the field of acting have been conquered by black actors and actresses with the emblematic case, among others, of the actress Maya Rudolph who will be "against herself" for her work in The Good Place both for that to Saturday Night Live. Other nominees include Billy Porter, Sterling K. Brown, Zendaya, Anthony Anderson, Don Cheadle, Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Jeremy Pope, Octavia Spencer and Kerry Washington.
Always with regards to the records, the 160 nominations brought home by Netflix must be reported, to which is added also the nomination of Brad Pitt who was nominated exclusively for his short, but incredible, imitation of Anthony Fauci at SNL.
But if we can rejoice for a (finally) adequate representation of the afrodiscend community at the nominations, on the other we can only join a very small note of color (dark) raised by Vulture and linked to The Morning Show: the series that recounts the difficult life of women in the morning television shows has brought four nominations for four men and only one for a woman (Jennifer Aniston). Curious, isn't it?
