Emerson Royal, Ryan Sessegnon and Djed Spence’s Tottenham Trade Fates Ahead of Crucial Summer

By Elliefrost @adikt_blog

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham have some big decisions to make as they shape their plans for the 2024/25 season and beyond. By making progress under the Australian this season, Spurs may be able to continue rising in the table if they have another successful summer transfer window.

As part of the changes, a squad selection will be required in North London, with a handful of players potentially leaving for new challenges elsewhere. There could be quite a bit of movement at full-backs, with two of the Lilywhites' current seven options in that part of the pitch playing on loan away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

So what exactly does the future hold for players like Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon? Our Tottenham writers Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest give their verdict on the full-backs below.

Pedro Porro

Gold: The Spaniard has been excellent overall this season and there is plenty more to come from him as he develops under Postecoglou. A simple one to start. TO HOLD

Guest: It's a very easy decision when it comes to Porro as he has a big role to play in what Postecoglou is trying to build in North London. The Spaniard has excelled in the Spurs team this season and hopefully that will be the case again next season. TO HOLD

Emerson Royal

Gold: Difficult, because Emerson loves life at Spurs and Postecoglou constantly says he is one of the best managers at the club. Every time he steps on the field, he gives everything for the club. However, he doesn't really fit into the Australian's system and at a time when they need to open up spots for foreign players, another big player from Saudi Arabia could prove too attractive for everyone involved this time around. TO SELL

Guest: Tottenham may be tempted to sell Emerson this summer if another bid comes from Saudi Arabia following Al Nassr's failed bid in January. However popular the player is at the club and the fact that he always gives everything in a Tottenham shirt, he is unfortunately not a like-for-like replacement for Porro and you can see the difference when he does start in place of his teammate .

A move to Emerson this summer, if the price is right of course, could be the best option for Tottenham so they can bring in a Porro alternative. TO SELL

Gold: An easier one because Postecoglou has already shown that he does not see Spence as part of his team in the future. First in the summer and when he returned from his failed loan to Leeds, the young full-back was sent to train with the Under. -21s. Hopefully his spell at Genoa should have helped Spurs secure a deal for him this summer, even if it could end up being another loan. SELL BUT IF NOT LOAN

Guest: Spence's move to Tottenham simply didn't work out and the right full-back faces a crucial summer in his young career. The Italian side are now on loan at Genoa and have reportedly included a clause in their loan deal to buy the player for £8.5 million at the end of the season.

Regardless of whether they sign him or not, Tottenham need to part ways with Spence permanently as he is clearly not in Postecoglou's thoughts and it is probably best for both parties to go their separate ways. TO SELL

Gold: His excellent first season in the Premier League has come to a premature end, but after signing a fantastic new contract during the season, the Italian is here for the long term. TO HOLD

Guest: Udogie will unfortunately miss the rest of the season due to injury. Like Porro, the player will play a major role in Postecoglou's Tottenham team in the coming years. TO HOLD

Ben Davies

Gold: Davies has been there for Spurs when they needed him this season and his versatility has been crucial for Postecoglou. With more games next season, his experience, homegrown status and ability to fill in in a number of positions could come in handy. However, the question is whether the Welshman wants to play more regular football elsewhere at this stage of his career. TO HOLD

Guest: Davies may not have started as many games as he would have liked, but he is still useful at left-back and centre-back when called upon. Tottenham will always need cover, especially with a return to Europe next season, and it makes perfect sense to keep him at the club. TO HOLD

Sergio Reguilon

Gold: Another not on Postecoglou's wanted list and after a good loan at Brentford, Spurs should be able to get a fee for him in the final year of his contract. TO SELL

Guest: Reguilon is now enjoying a successful loan spell at Brentford and this could potentially spark interest in his services next summer. Another that clearly doesn't fit Postecoglou's long-term thinking: Tottenham must part ways with the former Real Madrid man for good next term as part of a squad overhaul. TO SELL

Ryan Sessegnon

Gold: Sessegnon's injury-plagued time at Spurs could come to an end this summer if the club does not include the option in his contract. The hope is that this operation will repair his right hamstring, as did last year's operation on the left, but it is a risk to give him another year of contract unless Tottenham can find him on a half-season loan move at the same time to test it out or even just. increasing his value again for a move in January for a player who cost him £30 million plus Josh Onomah five years ago. LOAN

Guest: Injuries have wreaked havoc on Sessegnon's career at Tottenham following his move from Fulham in 2019. As his Spurs contract expires this summer, unless the club decides to include the option in his deal to extend it for a further 12 months , this could be the right choice. time for both sides to go in different directions.

Everyone hopes that the player can get his career back on track elsewhere if he leaves. SUMMER OUTPUT
