Verdict: Easy Watch

Story: The Last Witch Hunter starts as Kaulder (Diesel) and his men go into battle against witches where we get to see his skills in combat but he gets cursed with endless life. Move to the present day and we see how Kaulder still walks the Earth helping and defeating witches in the modern society.

Kaulder’s handler a priest Dolan 36th (Caine) is about to retire leaving him needing a replacement Dolan 37th (Wood). 37th gets assigned earlier than first planned when the 36th get murdered by the dark witches. Kaulder must work with the 37th to figure out which witch is behind the curse placed on the 36th before he officially dies, which brings him into the path of bar owner witch Chloe (Leslie).

With most witches fearing Kaulder, Chloe reluctantly helps him go into his past to see who could be the powerful witch that has come back to try and take back over the world with their power as Kaulder must come face to face with the most powerful witch he has ever encountered.

The Last Witch Hunter is an adventure fantasy that fits into the genre nicely without being one of the best or worst. It takes on the Witch idea which is different from the usual vampire, werewolf or zombie genre. This could easily have been the rebirth of the hunter franchise but due to poor box office we are left thinking this was bad. If truth be told this is an easy watch for anyone who likes the fantasy horror genre.

Vin Diesel is his usual strong mumbling lead that work for action involved in this film., Wood makes for a good sidekick figure but his casting seems too obvious for a later twist in the film, Leslie steps out of Game of Thrones in this role to continue her star power in the nerd following outthere. While Michael Caine gets his good pay check for playing the small part of the elder wise guide like the Watcher in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. This is an easy watch and slightly predictable by the final outcome of the film.

Overall: Enjoyable but not great fantasy action film.
