Elephant Feeding Goes Awry, Woman Killed in Lorry Topple

A 66 year old woman died tragically when the vehicle she was traveling was attacked by an elephant in the Gonagan Ara area after the driver stopped the lorry carrying a group of pilgrims to feed the elephant.

The group of pilgrims on their way to Kataragama had reportedly tried to feed the elephant with bananas.However, the animal had attacked the lorry toppling it and the woman who was injured had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the hospital. The deceased has been identified as K.G.Karunawathi, a mother of six from Muthukandiya fishing village in Kandaudapanguwa.
