Are you proud of yourself for not having splurged too much this season? Well reward yourself by spending all of your savings on these mid-season sales. At least that’s what I did last night, picking up an RRL t-shirt, some Lemaire trousers, and a few bags of coffee beans (had to re-up). There are some really good mid-season sales right now, ranging from Edward Green shoes to Pure Blue Japan flannels to Eidos suits. Some notables:
Brooks Brothers: Extra 25% off Clearance Items
Take an additional 25% off already-discounted items in the sale section. I mostly shop here just for the shoes nowadays, many of which are made by Allen Edmonds, Alden, Crockett & Jones, and Alfred Sargent (just look for descriptions that say made-in-USA or made-in-England). With the discount, you can snag these suede wingtips for $149; penny loafers for $239; and Red Wing chukkas for $183. Solid deals.
Cavour: 20% off Sitewide, Includes Edward Green
Speaking of shoes, Cavour in Norway has a nice promotion right now, where you can take 20% off anything on their site, including things from brands such as Edward Green and Saint Crispin’s. The code cavour20 will knock 20% off the listed price, and if you live outside of the European Union, you can deduct another 20% for not having to pay VAT. That puts things such as Edward Green’s Dover at $969 and the Piccadilly at $848. Not cheap, but also two of my favorite ready-to-wear shoes. They’re terrific with sport coats.
No Man Walks Alone: Archive Sale Now Online
No Man Walks Alone is a sponsor on this site, but also one of my favorite online stores. Last week, they held an archive sale in New York City, where previous season stock was marked down as much as 80%. This morning, they posted the remnants of that sale online. As you can imagine, the stock is a little picked over, but the store’s general selection is so great anyway that there are still some great things. I remember Blue in Green as being a much more straightforward denim shop five years ago – a solid place to get Japanese imports and some related workwear. But in the last two years, they’ve really expanded. The selection now feels a little more offbeat and a lot more interesting. Some of my favorite brands here include the usual names – Monitaly, Kapital, Chimala, Ten C, and Lady White. I also bought this faded Pure Blue Japan flannel, pictured above, recently and love how it looks with jeans and military-styled outerwear. Barneys New York: 40% off Select Items
Given the scope of the selection here, your best bet is to filter the sale selection by brands and see what comes up. Among the discounted stock, I like this Inis Meain rose colored sweater; Margaret Howell ochre camp collar shirt; and what look to be shell cordovan Crockett & Jones bluchers. There are also some beautiful scarves and ties from Drake’s. And I’ve been wearing these Eidos’ “Agy” pants a lot lately. They’re modeled after a traditional style worn in India and named after Agyesh from Stoffa (Antonio and Agyesh traveled to India together a few years ago). The pants are voluminous, relaxed, and have an interesting silhouette. They’re also just tremendously fun and comfortable to wear. While you could wear them outside, I mostly use them at home like you would do with a pair of sweatpants. Pair them with t-shirts and sweaters while lounging.
SSENSE: Up to 50% Off Select Items
Canada’s SSENSE (pronounced “essence”) has emerged over the last couple of years as one of the largest and most successful online stores for contemporary fashion and designer clothing. Two years ago, it was estimated they make somewhere in the nine-figures in terms of annual sales. And their growth since has been even stronger.
A lot of the stuff here is admittedly outside of my wheelhouse, but they also carry enough things to keep me checking back on a regular basis. I love Christophe Lemaire, for example, a former Hermes designer who now runs his own eponymous line. Lemaire’s clothes mix a bit of Helmut Lang’s minimalism with Armani’s silhouettes (the stuff is seriously amazing). Last night, I bought his silky, wide-legged trousers in slate gray lyocell, which are decorated with a self-belt. SSENSE has the same shirt modeled above with the trousers. They also have some great basics from brands such as such as Tomorrowland, Our Legacy, and Studio Nicholson; shoes from Spalwart, Reebok, and Vans; and workwear by Levi’s Vintage Clothing and nonnative. Margiela’s black leather five-zip is also still my favorite piece of outerwear. Wear it with slim black jeans, a crisp white t-shirt, and black side zip boots or white sneakers.
East Dane: Up to 40% off Select Items
East Dane was introduced a few years ago as the menswear side to ShopBop (a large, online emporium for womenswear). Like their counterpart, East Dane has an equally large selection, ranging anywhere from minimalist fashion forward lines to more classic brands. Their focus is admittedly not that targeted, but if you sift through their inventory, you’ll be surprised at how many good things are carried here.
At the moment, they have select items marked down by as much as 40%. That puts these RM William Chelsea boots at $346 and $297; Gitman camp collar shirts starting at $107; two-pack of Velva tees at $50 (size up); textured SNS Herning fisherman sweaters at $133 (again size up); Wolverine work boots at $280; and Portuguese Flannel shirts starting at $57. They also have those self-belted Lemaire trousers in black for $264.
