Economist Fabián Estapé Dies

Spanish economist Fabian Estapé died on Tuesday aged 88 in León, Spain from a heart attack. Estapé was born in Portbou (Alt Empordà) in 1923 and graduated in law and an economics professor, had been poorly with bad health for some time.

In his long career Fabián Estapé was linked to both the academic world (at several universities, including his work as rector at the University of Barcelona and Professor of Economic Policy at the same university) as well as the political world.
Estapé won the Román Riaza prize for his doctoral thesis The Tax Reform of 1845. In 1971, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development Planning and worked in close collaboration with the minister Laureano Lopez Rodo.

In 1957, he received the National Prize of the Juan March Foundation that enabled him to conduct research on foreign investment and Spanish economic development. Later, in 1960 he competed for and won the Chair of Economic Policy at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Barcelona, ??where he was dean from 1962 to 1965.

The unique insights of Fabián Estapé on economic policy and public finance became popular in recent years due to his part in the economic morning program on Catalunya Radio.
