This advice has come up so many times in the last few weeks, it's time to share it here. A few years ago I hosted an event where each speaker shared the secret to her/his success. One of our speakers, Mike Cahill, shared this pearl of wisdom that I've lived by ever since.
The logic is simple, do the thing you hate the most first thing and then the remainder of the day is filled with easier tasks and you feel accomplished getting the tough stuff done first. This is great advice for job seekers. Dreading working on your resume? Work on it first thing. Putting off writing thank you letters? Write them first thing in the morning before you do anything else (bonus-they'll go out in today's mail). Hate networking? Invite someone to a breakfast or coffee meeting first thing. You'll not only accomplish something for your career but you'll be surprised at the boost in your day from such a positive interaction.
So get a fork and take a big bite of the frog your facing today. You won't be sorry.
